What Do Ya Know Good?
As a child, my life was full of uncles of different generations. They were old school, but they had a zest for life. They grew up at a time when people truly labored to earn a living and had to rely on their faith in God and a really good sense of humor to get from one day to the next. I loved the stories they told, some of which only had a little bit of truth to them. I remember fondly how their laughter erupted from deep inside and they shook with delight. I specifically remember that one of the greetings that they had for each other was the question, “What do ya know good?”
That’s still a relevant question. So, let me greet you this morning with that playful, but important question, “What do ya know good?” If it were posed to me, I would have to respond like the writer of the famous Psalm 118. That writer advised, “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good.” Yes, I know about the goodness of God. And it causes me to suggest that you remember fondly, on this terrific day, all the memorable characters in your family who brought or bring a smile to your face. But beyond that, rejoice in the fact that you know something, or rather somebody, good. O give thanks.
See ya N’Side!
